BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the government is using the Election Commission (EC) 'in a dirty way'. He came up with the remark while talking to reporters at a press conference at party's Nayapaltan central office in the city yesterday. Rizvi expressed his concern over statements from election commissioners, saying they encourage irregularities in the election. "A completely fair election cannot be held in Bangladesh," the chief election commissioner said at a recent press conference, which was later reiterated by other members of the commission. "We believe such statements from the CEC and other commissioners are bad omens which will encourage field-level officials to rig the polls and will encourage the illegal rulers of the country," he said.
Such statements from the election commissioners are tantamount to a breach of their oaths, remarked Rizvi. "The government is using the Election Commission in a disgusting manner. This commission has failed to put assert itself on law enforcement agencies, including the police. The government is in full control of the law enforcers throughout the country. False cases, arrests, raids on the homes of opposition leaders and activists still continue." He complained that the national broadcasting channel BTV and a few private TV channels are 'openly favouring' the government and are acting as 'bootlickers.'
