The scrutiny of the nomination papers of election candidates from different parties is going on for 300 constituencies. The Returning Officers will publish the list of the capable candidates in due course.
In the meantime the nomination papers of some heavyweight candidates have been nullified for reasons of defaulted loans, convictions and on some other grounds. The names and particulars of the disqualified candidates are as follows.
Khaleda Zia: Bangladesh Nationalist Party's Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's nomination has been voided because of being sentenced over two corruption cases. Her constituency is Feni 1 which consists of Chhagalnaiya, Fulgazi and Porshuram.
Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Wahiduzzaman revoked Begum Khaleda Zia's nomination yesterday. Begum Khaleda Zia's nomination for Bogra 6 has been nullified too.
Ruhul Amin Howlader: Jatiya Party's Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howlader's nomination paper has been repudiated on grounds of defaulted loans. His electoral area is Patuakhali 1 which includes Patuakhali Sadar, Mirzaganj and Dumki upazilas.
Kader Siddiqui: Kader Siddiqui's nomination has been declined on grounds of defaulted loans. He had submitted nomination papers for Tangail 4 and 8 constituencies.
Reza Kibria: Gono Forum's candidate Reza Kibria's candidature has been nullified because of defaulted credit card bills. Reza Kibria is the son of late Awami League leader and former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria. Reza Kibria's electoral area is Habiganj 1. Ruhul Quddus Talukder: Ruhul Quddus Talukder's nomination has been revoked because of being sentenced over charges of corruption and militancy. His constituency is Natore 2. He belongs to BNP.
Imran H Sarker: Imran H Sarker is well-known for his role in Gono Jagoron Mancha which raised much hue and cry a few years ago demanding the prosecution of war criminals. However, his nomination has been revoked because, according to Election Commission, Imran H Sarker did not mention the exact number of his supporters in the nomination papers. His constituency is Kurigram 4.
Golam Mawla Rony: Golam Mawla Rony joined BNP a few days ago. His nomination has been rejected because of his missing signature on one of the nomination papers. Golam Mawla Rony had submitted papers seeking BNP candidature from Patuakhali 3 which includes Dashmina and Golachipa upazilas.
Some other leaders whose nomination papers were discarded on Sunday are Hero Alam, Sadeq Hossain Khoka's son Ishrak Hossain, Afroza Abbas, Akteruzzaman, Gias Quader Chowdhury, Samir Quader Chowdhury, Aminul Haque, Shahadat Hossain, Jakir Hossain, Abu Ashfaq, Amanullah Aman, Abdul Malek, Kabir Hossain, Nazrul Islam, Mosharraf Hossain, Awlad Hossain, Monir Hossain, Selim Bhuiyan, Nasima Akter Kalpana, Kafil Uddin, Khandaker Faridul Alam and Tamiz Uddin.
The above candidates will be able to appeal against their disqualification from 3rd to 5th December 2018 up to afternoon 5 pm. The appeal hearings will be held from 6th to 8th December while the election is scheduled to be held on 30th December 2018.
