Three teachers including acting principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College Nazneen Ferdaus were suspended yesterday at the direction of the education ministry as the probe body has found evidences of instigating Aritry Adhikary to commit suicide.
The two other suspended teachers class teacher Hasna Hena and headmistress of the morning section Zinat Ara. The ministry also asked the authorities concerned to file a divisional case against the accused teachers along with cancelling their Monthly Payment Order (MPO).
The school authorities have been directed to keep all the classes and exams suspended until further directive. Besides, the ministry sent letters to the RAB's DG and DMP's Commissioner asking to take stern action on this regard. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told these to journalists at a press briefing at his office in the Secretariat yesterday.
He said, "The probe body formed by Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has already submitted its report, where evidences of prompting Aritry to commit suicide have been found against the three teachers.
Besides, allegations of several anomalies including admission of additional students in exchange of money and keeping vacant the post of principal for long have come out in the probe report. But, none dares to open mouth fearing harassment."
The education minister said, "Earlier on December 3, a three-member probe body was formed led by Prof Mohammad Yusuf, Director of the DSHE, Dhaka region asking to submit the report by three days. But, the probe body has submitted the report before the deadline."
"We have come to know that High Court has issued a 'suo-moto' directive asking to form a probe body headed by an additional secretary with a view to finding out the reasons behind the suicide of class nine student Aritry.The committee has also been directed to file the report within a month. We will discharge our duties properly. Besides, we will submit a copy of the current probe report to the attorney general for necessary actions," the minister added.
On the other hand, agitating students and guardians of the educational institutions staged demonstrations yesterday to press home their six point demands including immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the accused teachers.
The demonstrating students in front the school gate along with placards, banners and festoons. They also shouted slogans against the teachers boycotting all the classes and exams.
Teachers' representative Hasina Begum told The Asian Age that a portion of students sat for the ongoing final examinations yesterday, while most of them were absent in the exams. This is why, the authorities has declared the classes and exams shut down for an indefinite period."
Aritry Adhikary committed suicide hanging her from ceiling fan in her bedroom on December 3 failing to accept the insult of her parents by teachers. A teacher of the school called Aritry's parents to school in allegation of adopting unfair means in the final exams and using mobile phone and insulted them before her with a threat to give transfer certificate (TC).
