Hindu community leaders have expressed their grave concern over the after polls violence. They observed elections bring trepidation for them, instead of festivity. Apart from, no national election after 1975 fetched any remarkable benefit for the minorities, claimed Jago Hindu Parishad leader Avijit Banik.
Vice president of the platform said: "Those only brought persecution. Many of the Hindus were forced to leave the country." He came up with the assertion while addressing a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club yesterday. In a written statement, the Hindu community leader noted: "Religious minorities have been repressed by the defeated political candidates. In most cases, the administration and powerful figures turn blind eyes to those incidents."
"Therefore, we fear terror attacks on temples, residences and ancestral homes during the eleventh national election," he cautiously noted. Citing statistics, the platform leader claimed there was 29.7 percent Hindu people in 1947 which dropped to 20 percent in 1970.
"According to the government report, the figure further dropped to 9.7 percent at present," he added. Putting forward a 10-point-demand to the Election Commission, he concluded that if the country shakes off the minorities, a fresh crisis would grasp the democracy.
