Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi on Monday underscored the need for expediting revenue earnings for country's overall development. They said proper functioning of the country's business sector and other trade-related activities are the precondition to uplift the economic growth.
There is no alternative to expand trade and business to a greater extent taking the country forward on the way to development, they added. Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate organised the discussion at Government Employees Welfare Board Auditorium in the city to mark the 'National VAT Day and VAT Week-2018'.
The slogan of this year's 'VAT Day' and 'VAT Week' is 'VAT Dichhe Janogan, Desher Hochhe Unnayan', reports BSS. Member of National Board of Revenue Arifa Shahana addressed the discussion as chief guest with Muazzem Hossain, Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Rajshahi, in the chair.
Income Tax Commissioner Dr Khandaker Ferdous Alam, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sujayet Islam, Director of Rapid Action Battalion Lt Col Mahbubul Alam and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Moniruzzaman also spoke.
Laying stress on enhancing revenue collection from both internal and external sources, speakers said it could be the effective means of reducing dependency on foreign aid for executing the uplift programmes. Importance should be given on creating mass awareness about more revenue collection for making the country economically self-reliant, they added.
