BNP has vowed to abolish all the 'black' laws including the Digital Security Act, Official Secrets Act and Special Power Acts to facilitate the freedom of people speech and expression, if it goes on power.
BNP, the main ally of the Jatiya Oikya Front yesterday unveiled its 19-point election manifesto in a hotel of the city putting emphasis on several issues including freedom of media.
BNP vowed to bring a balance on executive power of the President and Prime Minister through necessary amendment to the constitution. It said, there will be a provision in which Prime Minister cannot stay in power for more than two consecutive times.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir read out the manifesto formulated following the BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's Vision-2030 with the slogan "Let's go ahead together, cast your vote for sheaf of paddy". In the manifesto, the party also pledged to keep a strong role for resisting the extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearances and inhumane physical and mental torture.
Besides, it has given emphasis on decentralization of power, economy, freedom fighters, youth and women, education and employment, energy, information and technology, sports and culture, foreign and expatriate welfare, agriculture and industry, health and medical, defense and police, housing, establishment of pension fund and rationing fund, environment, foreign and minor ethnic and minority communities.
BNP has also announced to ensure the constitutional obligations of the Prime Minister to be responsible to the parliament.
It has promised to appoint deputy speaker from opposition party and form a judicial commission to ensure the freedom of judiciary department.
All kinds of vat on education will be abolished and allowance will be given to the unemployed youths for a year or until getting of job. Manpower will be recruited in the police battalion. Besides, police and other law enforcement agencies will make modern and punctual. Youths' demands like quota reform and safe road will get highly priority, the party said.
Among others, standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Nazrul Islam Khan, Moin Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury were also present in the event.Earlier on Monday, Jatiya Oikya Front unveiled 35-points manifesto, where 14 pledges got priority.
