Awami League Presi-dium member Mohammed Nasim yesterday said the Jatiya Oikya Front lawmakers should take oath and play a positive role in the parliament.
"I would request the Oikya Front MPs to take oath and join the parliament. They should honor the people's mandate by playing a positive role in the parliament although they are few in number," he said. Nasim, also the grand alliance spokesman, was addressing a meeting at the National Press Club in the city.
Bangamata Parishad organized the meeting, marking the historic Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Stressing the need for a strong opposition party in the parliament, Nasim said the Jatiya Party could play an effective role in the House to strengthen democracy.
Chaired by Bangamata Parishad presidium member Muzaffar Hossain Paltu, the meeting was addressed, among others, by vice-chancellor of BSMMU Dr Kanak Kanti Barua and Bangamata Parishad President Anisur Rahman.
