Jatiya Kabita Parishad has demanded February 1 to be declared as the National Poetry Day. The demand was raised from a press conference at Kabita Utsab office at TSC of Dhaka University (DU) yesterday.
The organizers also said the 33rd National Poetry Festival-2019 will be held on February 1 and 2. Kabita Parishad president, also the pro-VC of DU poet Dr Muhammad Samad presided over the seminar while the parishad general secretary poet Tarik Sujat read out a written statement.
"The National Poetry Fest is the largest and traditional gathering in Bangladesh. It is unique in nature not only for Bangladesh but also for South-East Asia," the statement said."Each edition of the fest is being attended averagely by 10,000 poetry loving people per day which is a matter to be proud of.
We previously came forward with the same demand. Now the parishad is urging the government to take necessary steps for reconsidering the demand."Poet Asad Chowdhury, poet Anwara Syed Haque, poet Asad Mannan and poet Kazi Rozi also spoke at the program. Apart from, the platform's joint-general secretary poet Aminur Rahman Sultan was also present among others.
