Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six persons conducting drives in Gazipur. The arrestees, including a jeweler, had been robbing people at Tongi and Uttara, said the elite force.
The arrestees are - Prodip Poddar, 41, Md Dulal Hossen, 30, Jakir Hossen, 26, Kokila Begum, 24 and Hajera Begum, 52. Golds, mobile phone sets and Tk 11,000 cash were seized from their possession.
Prodip is the kingpin, said RAB-1 company commander Sarwar Bin Kashem. "He has a jewelry shop at Altab Plaza at Tongi," said Kashem while briefing the media at its Karwanbazar media center yesterday.
"He had been operating the gang behind the jewelry business and used to lead a group of 10-12 people. The shop was used to store robbed goods. If anybody gets arrested, the leader used to provide legal help and take care of his family outside," claimed RAB.
Meantime, Dulal used to ferry clothes at Uttara and Gazipur. During the sale, he was responsible to draft the plan. "They racky the spots on daytime while the gang used to hit at night. The female member primarily kept the robbed ornaments to her," said RAB officials.
