Smith to miss 2 BPL matches

Steven Smith will miss Comilla Victorians' next two matches in the BPL, after a previous elbow injury flared up in the last couple of days. He will fly back to Sydney for a check-up but is expected to be back in Bangladesh sometime next week.

He is set to return to Australia on Thursday at 10:45pm to see doctors, the team said in a statement. Smith will take a MRI test in Australia. He might return to play the rest of the matches if the test shows him to fit enough. "He is quite positive about returning, possibly during the Sylhet phase of the competition," Victorians media manager Sohanuzzaman Khan told ESPNcricinfo.

"He will undergo an MRI in Australia, which isn't available in Bangladesh, and will inform us about it. Smith was out of action during the morning practice session on Thursday. He took part in the running session but skipped batting practice.

Victorians coach Mohammad Salahuddin said the day's practice was "an optional affair." "So, Smith decided to skip batting today. But I think he will be available in the next practice session," he said.without revealing anything about the captain's injury.

Smith joined the Victorians under a special deal. It was prohibited to add a player outside the player's draft but Victorians roped him in breaching this rule. Bangladesh Cricket Board later changed the rule. It is yet to be announced who will lead Victorians in Smith's absence.   Victorians played two matches in BPL so far and lost one of them. Smith batted in both matches but failed to impress as he had gotten out for 16 and 0 respectively.
