A three-day-long 'Inter-national Conference on Disaster Risk Manag-ement (ICDRM)', jointly organized by BUET, Japan Institute of Disaster Prevention and Urban Safety (JIDPUS), Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), Urban Resilience Project: RAJUK Part, Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD), was inaugurated in the capital yesterday. The opening session was chaired by BUET VC Prof Dr Saiful Islam while Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Hiroyasu Izumi was present as the chief guest.
VC of UAP Dr Jamilur Reza Choudhury was present as the guest of honor. A number of sessions will be conducted on hazard, vulnerability and risk assessment. In the conference, a total of 238 abstracts were received from different parts of the world while approximately 128 papers of different fields are expected to be presented in different sessions.
Prof of BRAC University Dr Ainun Nishat, Professor of University of Tokyo Dr Kazuo Konagai and Dr Kimiro Meguro, research fellow of BUET-JIDPUS Dr JWF Wiersma, Professor of Osaka University Dr Stefano Tsukamoto were also present. The conference will conclude on Monday at BUET ECE building.
