Construction of compost plant begins in Rangpur


Construction work of the second compost fertilizer plant has begun at Nachchina area in Ward No-30 in the city for organic recycling of household solid wastes and garbage into compost fertilizers, reports BSS.

Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa inaugurated construction work of shed of the plant under the Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) project at a function arranged there on Sunday as the chief guest.

Presided over by City Councilor (Ward no-30) Malek Niaz Arzoo, City Councilors Moktar Hossain (Ward no-29) and Sekendar Ali (Ward no-23), Executive Engineer of RpCC Azam Ali, Assistant Engineer Rafikul Islam, attended the function.

The main objective of establishing the plant is to turn household solid wastes and garbage into compost fertilizers through organic recycling using modern technologies to use the products in agricultural activities and improve environment of the city.

The Department of Environment is implementing construction work of the compost plant under its Programmatic Clean Development Mechanism Project with financial assistance of Bangladesh Climate Change Trust.

While addressing the occasion, Mayor Mostafa laid importance on recycling of all municipal organic wastes adopting modern technologies to produce usable eco-friendly compost fertilizers for improving environment.

"We have taken adequate steps under various programs and need continuous support of the city dwellers to turn Rangpur into an eco-friendly clean and beautiful city in future with better environment," he added,
