Dhaka Reporters' Unity president Elias Hossain doubted that the prime minister could have been misbriefed about the journalist couple murder. "The PM doesn't entertain any misdeed. I think she could have been misguided about the sensational murder," he said hoping the PM would be taking update regarding the investigation by 'trusted aides'.
"Then we might get the justice over the double murder," he added. Hossain came up with the remarks while addressing a protest rally at DRU premises yesterday demanding justice over the journalist couple murder.
The journalist leader also blamed his colleagues for not having the unity to yield to investigation report even after seven years. "Not only Sagar-Runi, we demand trial of each attack on journalists. We want to remain active with other journalist communities," said Hossain.
On Feb 12, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and ATN Bangla Senior Reporter Meherun Runi were stabbed to death in the bedroom of their flat in Dhaka's Razabazar. The then home minister Shahara Khatun, within hours of the incident in 2012, had promised to catch the culprits within 48 hours.
Nine months after Khatun's assurance, erstwhile home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir claimed major breakthrough at a press conference after the arrest of a few people in another case. The investigators have been submitting the progress report every month following a court directive, but nothing substantive has come out so far.
