Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday expressed his disappointment over the progress of investigation in Sagor-Runi murder case.

"I am confused for the failure of submitting charge sheet to the court even after seven years of the double-murder. Though, the government is very sincere to bring the perpetrators to justice, whose were behind the murder and for what reasons are still unknown. However, we are looking for the clues and I hope, we will be able to find solution shortly in this regard", he said.

The Home Minister came up with the remarks yesterday, when a group of journalists on behalf of Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) went to submit a memorandum to the minister demanding trial of the killers of journalist Sagor Sarowar and his wife Meherun Runi.

During the period, journalists' leaders urged the minister to find out the real culprits immediately and bring them to book. They also pressed for submitting charge sheet on February 17 scheduled by the court earlier. Journalists' leaders said, "Seeking justice against murder is the rights of a citizen and the government is responsible to help establish the rights.

There are a lot of examples that law enforcers have succeeded to unveil the mysteries of sensational murders. They brought the murderers under trial. But, the mystery of Sagor-Runi murder remains unveiled due to unknown reasons." They said, time was killed in the name of investigation due to invisible interference from powerful quarters. They hoped that the government will be able to overcome the situation at the soonest.

Dhaka Reporters' Unity President Elias Hossain, General Secretary Kabir Ahmed Khan, Organizing Secretary Afzal Bari, Publicity and Promotion Secretary Sheikh Mahmud A Riyat, former President Sakhawat Hossain Badshah among others were present during the submission of memorandum.

Sagor Sarowar, news editor of Masranga Television and his wife Meherun Runi, Senior Reporter of ATN Bangla Television were brutally killed at their own residence at Pashchim Razabazar in the city on February 11 in 2012.

Runi's brother Nawsher Alam Roman lodged a case with the Shere Bangla Nagor police station in this connection. The court has so far fixed deadline for submitting charge sheet 62 times in the last seven years. But, the investigation officer (IO) could not submit the much sought after charge sheet all these years of the brutal incident.

At present, investigation is being run by the RAB. January 9 was set for submission of the charge sheet. Debobrata Bishwas, Magistrate of Dhaka Metropolitan court fixed next date for submission of charge sheet on February 17 as the IO failed to submit it on January 9.
