Ruling Awami League nominated candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-polls Atiqul Islam declared his election manifesto yesterday, the second day of his electioneering with a special pledge to make Dhaka North digitized and completing the unfinished projects of late Mayor Annisul Huq.
BGMEA former president also laid emphasis on building a healthy, vibrant and modern Dhaka. Islam at a city hotel declared his poll pledges before politicians, businessmen, cricketers and noted personalities."We drafted it together and I believe it's completely implementable if we join hands." The manifesto read: "DNCC will introduce digitized traffic system and mobile app-based services."
It also proposed e-ticketing which would enable city dwellers to travel with a single digitized ticket. In 2015, Annisul made almost the same promises and got elected. He later claimed many of those were out of his protocol and he did not know about those earlier.
Islam yesterday softened the tone saying: "Yes, I know it's easy to say and the implementation is very challenging. But I'm hopeful, confident and very positive."His tasks will be "tough horseback ride", Islam agreed upon. He sought help from all governmental and non-governmental organizations. It is to be noted that if Islam get elected, he would get only a year to meet the pledges."I didn't draft those mulling my stint, rather those are part of a long-term plan," he concluded.
