England Under-19 cricket team visited a project of the UK government and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Pahartoli on Tuesday.
The Tk667crore project, continuing since 2008, aims at improving the living standard of marginal people and eradicating poverty. After concluding their visit, the English youths played a cricket match with local teens. They were greeted warmly when at the project site where the team also exchanged views with locals.
British High Commission officials said the team expressed their excitement seeing the UK's role in socio-economic development of the poor through the project which provides training, builds road, drain, toilet, supplies education materials, ensures mothers' nutrition, safe water, and solar light, among others.
Programme Manager Farzana Mostafa, British High Commission Senior Press Secretary Meher Nigar Zerin, Press and Publication Officer Narayan Chandra Debnath and UNDP delegation and Project Manager Dr Sohel Iqbal, among others accompanied the cricket team.
