The High Court on Thursday issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain as to why action should not be taken against Coca-Cola company for using 'indecent' words in its advertisement.An HC bench comprising of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard.
The court also asked law secretary, information secretary, cultural affairs secretary, education secretary, director general of Bangla Academy, inspector general of police and International Beverages Private Limited to comply with the order within four weeks. The bench issued another rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why the use of offensive words in the advertisement should not be declared illegal.
The writ was filed with the High Court on February 27, against using of words like, Pera, Fapor, Matha Nosto, Guti, Jotil, Babu, on the label of Coca-Cola bottles.Lawyer Maniruzzman Rana, who stood for the petitioner, said the Bangla words, which are used in Coco-Cola campaign, are objectionable and children are also getting used to these words.
