The Gono Forum letter of expulsion of Sultan Mohammad Monsur, MP was handed over to him Wednesday night. A letter requesting cancellation of his membership of Parliament (MP) will be sent to the Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury very soon, sources in the Gono Forum told The Asian Age last night.Sultan Mohammad Monsur was elected MP from the Moulvibazar - 2 constituency with the BNP's symbol sheaf of paddy in the last general election.
The Jatiya Oikya Front of which Gono Forum is a party, rejected the result of the election terming it a farcical and rigged to ensure the win of the ruling party. The administration, the Election Commission and the members of the law enforcing agencies helped the irregularities in the election, the Oikya Front leaders alleged. Earlier, the leaders also asked those elected under the banner of the Jatiya Oikya Front with the sheaf of paddy symbol and the rising sun not to take oath.
Sultan Mohammad Monsur took oath violating the party and the Front decision, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Executive President of the Gono Forum told The Asia Age adding that the forum leaders expelled Sultan Mohammad Monsur for joining the Parliament.
Advocate Subrata Chowdhury said that floor crossing of Sultan Mohammad Monsur was illegal for which his membership in the parliament should be cancelled as per the provision of the Constitution.On some technical grounds of parliament to cancel the membership of Sultan Monsur, the Gono Forum has been taking time in issuing a letter addressing the speaker.
The letter will be sent to the speaker within a couple of days after the return of Dr Kamal Hossain, President of the Gono Forum from South Korea.It may be mentioned here that Sultan Mohammad Monsur was expelled from the Steering Committee of the Jatiya Oikya Front following his joining of Parliament.
In the meantime, another MP- elect from the Gono Forum Mohammad Mukabbir Khan who was elected from Sylhet - 2 constituency with the symbol of rising sun of the Gono Forum has decided to join Parliament.All preparations regarding the joining of Mohammad Mukabbir Khan, MP, of the parliament has been taken, an aide of Mohammad Mukabbir Khan, MP told The Asian Age.
The leaders of the Gono Forum and the Jatiya Oikya Front earlier took a decision any MP elect on the Front would be expelled immediately after the joining parliament violating their decision.Mohammad Mukabbir Khan, MP has been maintaining liaison with the ruling party leaders for joining Parliament, sources said.
