Another young life lost to road mishap

Green Dhaka bus rams rickshaw at Rampura, passengers hand over driver to police


A biker was killed at city's Shewrapara area while a public bus rammed him from behind. The accident took place adjacent to Modern Wood Furniture around 10:15am yesterday.The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam Shanta, 31, a motor vehicle mechanic working at One Bank garage in the area. Nurul used to live with his wife and two-year-old son at an apartment in Moghbazar.        
  
The incident occurred when a Tetulia Paribahan bus smashed his motorbike leaving him critically injured. Onlookers rescued and rushed him to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation where doctor on duty declared him dead.

One of the deceased's relatives told the press that the youth went to office in the morning at Monipuripara. From there, he headed for Mirpur BRTA office and fell into the mishap. Mirpur police, meantime, said that they seized the bus and apprehended the driver Saiful. Meanwhile, public have handed over a driver while he was escaping the scene after ramming a rickshaw - leaving the three-wheeler driver and passenger injured at Rampura yesterday.  

The bus driver of 'Green Dhaka' company, plying Uttara-Motijheel route, was apprehended around 12:00pm adjacent to Rampura kitchen market. Passengers and witnesses said, the air-conditioned bus heading towards Uttara knocked the non-motorized three wheeler at Hazipara injuring both the rickshaw puller and passenger.

Later, the driver speeded up instead of stopping. However, the passengers sensed it and forced the driver to pull over.   The injured Dolly Akter got stitches at the hands and legs. She told the press that the driver was in race with another Raida Paribahan vehicle and pushed away the rickshaw while crossing.     

"After falling out I thought I was dead," she recalled. Sahidul Islam, a passenger of the Green Dhaka bus, said: "We sensed our bus bumped with something and after which the driver began speeding up. Realizing this, passengers started screaming while locals were chasing it to pull over."At last the driver was stopped near the kitchen market where police seized the vehicle and held the driver.
