When the politics of hatred-division is one the rise across the globe, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has set an example. A country cannot advance with politics of hatred and division. In recent times, politics in Bangladesh has taken an alarming shape. So noted personalities in the country have urged to shun such politics.
They came up with the call at a discussion on the recent barbaric shootings at two mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch at the National Press Club in the city yesterday morning. Jatiya Oikya Front Convener and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain said, "It is not good to hate people for grabbing political power.
Religions cannot be used in politics. People cannot be discriminated on the basis of religions as discrimination is contrary to principle, tradition and religions. I urge my countrymen to observe the Independence Day with these values."
BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan said, "We have many things to learn from New Zealand Prime Minister. Many people have been killed in the country. Thousands of BNP leaders and activists have been killed and disappeared. But none has felt shame."
General Secretary of Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) Khalequzzaman said, when religions are used in politics, it is used against the humanity. Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, "We are living in a world opposite to New Zealand. We cultivate hatred, not humanity. We should keep it mind that religions should be used in affairs of state and politics."
Noted lawyer Shahdeen Malik said, "There will be ideological differences, constructive criticism in the society. But we should take politics forward removing division. Jacinda Ardern has make a precedent to stop politics of division."Terming Jacinda 'the real mother of humanity' Dhaka University teacher Asif Nazrul said, "New Zealand Prime Minister and common people have resisted the darkness which the attacker wanted to spread."
Kalyan Party Chairman Syed Mohammad Ibrahim delivered the introductory speech at the function conducted by Mojibur Rahman Monju, an expelled Jamaat leader. The program was also addressed by Dr Jafrullah Chowhdury, Professor Dilara Chowdhury, Major General (Retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar, former secretary Mofazzal Karim Chowdhury, ex-state minister of foreign affairs Abul Hasan Chowdhury.
