Girls of the Old Dhaka took to the street yesterday demonstrating violence against women and to press home their demand to ensure congenial atmosphere for them. Numerous organizations also staged demonstration in front of the Jatiya Press Club with similar demands. They raised their voices for exemplary punishment of the culprits who set Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi ablaze.
"We are staging demonstration so that the barbaric incident doesn't reoccur," Farjana, a six grader of Faridabad High School in old town, told the press. "The agitation is to press home our demands so that we can move freely without fear," she said and advocated for immediate steps to end sexual assaults and battery in educational institutions. "We want a country for all safe," said the minor girl. Shramajibi Nari Maitree activists also formed a human chain demanding exemplary punishment of Nusrat killers.
"Patrons of the oppressors must be bought under the book so that none dares the atrocities in future," president of the platform Bannishikha Jamali said urging to shape mass social movement against the repressor and rapist.Bangladesh Journalist Forum also staged demonstration for Rafi seeking exemplary punishment. Access to Human Rights International activists deplored all sorts of sexual repressions and assaults.
They demand justice for two kids who were raped and murdered in Dhaka's Jatrabari area. "We need to put high hopes on social awareness and humanity," said the platform chief Md Enamul Haque adding it's their duty to ensure a safe, developed and healthy environment, a society and state as well for the next generation. "Because healthy mentality is the prerequisite for development which requires vigorous social settings," he concluded.
