Workers of Star Garments Ltd sealed off the Badda link road yesterday nearly for half an hour intensifying the traffic. Nearly 800 ready-made garment (RMG) workers blockaded one side of the road from 11:45 am. Later police normalize the situation."The owner is dilly-dallying our arrears. Today we were supposed to get the salary. However, none from their side appeared," said the agitated workers.
"We work here for livelihood. But they delay the payments. We are yet to get the arrears of March," said an apparel worker narrating their woes, "I failed to pay the house rent this month. Now almost starving as there is no penny left. None also left to lend any cash. It's unbearable and we take to the street as there is no option in our hands."
Badda police inspector Rafiqul Islam said the workers left the street upon cops' assurance. "Regular salary is a logical right. The owner is not doing the appropriate thing. However, we reached the garment authorities and they said that they would talk to their staffers," said the police official.
