4 policemen injured in Nilphamari raid

Four police officers have been injured after being attacked by a gang of drug traffickers during a raid in Nilphamari's Syedpur Upazila.

The incident occurred in the Upazila's Dolaparha at 10pm on Thursday, said Nilphamari Police Assistant Superindent Ashok Kumar.

Police arrested Hassan Ali, a 'top drug dealer' wanted in several cases, and an alleged assailant named Liton Hossain. The law enforcers recovered 900 methamphetamine-based yaba tablets from Hassan, the police said.

The injured policemen are Syedpur Police SI Nur Amin, Shawkat Ali, Abul Kalam Azar and Ganesh Rai. They have been admitted to the Syedpur Health Centre.

According to Ashok, a police team launched a drive to arrest Hassan from his home on a tip. Hassan attempted to flee but the police managed to chase him down and detain him.

"At that point, other drug dealers launched an attack on the police in an attempt to free Hasan. Later, the police arrested Hassan and Liton with the help of locals."

A case has been started over the incident, he added.
