The farming of Black Bengal Goat has been making possibility of economical solvency at Jamuna basin char areas in Shariakandi, Sonatola, Dhunat upazila in Bogura and it helps to lessen the sufferings of the poverty-stricken the inhabitants of the areas in the district.
Upazila Livestock Office sources said that the district is in the pioneer in livestock sector and it has been helping the lessening of the poverty and many local people are becoming solvent within very short span of time. Hundreds of families of the chars under Sonatola, Shariakandi and Dhunat upazila have been rearing different kinds of livestock and have changed their economical condition of their families.
Mozaffar Hossain, Ghugumari village under Chandanbaisha union in Shariakandi upazila said that Jamuna erosion has made him landless and he bought a goat for rearing by his wife Tahamina a year ago and it gave birth two kids and now its price is around at Tk. 8 thousand and it profits at Tk. 6 thousand in a year.
Shohel Mia of Fulbari Purbapara area said that they have been fostering goat as it is very beneficial profession and they can rear more goat for improving their social, economic status if they get loan on easy terms. Rural Livestock Physician Abul Kalam Azad of Nayapara under Hatsherpur union of the uapzila said that the poor people are more conscious about diseases in rearing animals in the rural areas than the past and they have been getting benefits from rearing animal like goat.
Contacted, Upazila Livestock Officer of Shariakandi upazila Sajedul Islam Iqbal said that at present, the people of the char areas of the district have been showing more interest in rearing black bengal goat in modern way as it is more beneficial to them and it creates an avenue for earning foreign currency after meeting up the demand of the country. Subsidiary and easy terms loan should be given to the goat farming people and it will change the lifestyle of the char areas, added the ULO.
