Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said the government is continuing its all-out efforts to control the narcotic menace. "We must get rid of drug abuse. We're putting in all necessary efforts to this end following a zero tolerance policy against drugs," he said.
The minister also said the government amended Narcotics Control Act to make it a time-befitting one while the law enforcers are playing a very strong role against drug peddling and drug abuse.
"Our future depends on our young generation as 65 percent of Bangladesh's capable workforce consists of young people. We should not let them go astray. That's why we're putting in our every effort (to save youths from drug abuse)," he added. Asaduzzaman Khan came up with the remarks while inaugurating the Department of Narcotic Control's (DNC's) anti-drug campaign through digital device 'Kiosk' at its Shegunbagicha office, reports UNB.
Kiosk is a small, free-standing LED display device that shows information or provides information and applications on education entertainment, and a variety of other topics. The digital device will be installed at different parts of the country, including the capital, to promote and display anti-drug campaigns through TVC, short films, and dramas. Asaduzzaman said:
"We're going to disseminate information about the harmful effects of drugs through Kiosk. We'll continue our efforts to rein in the escalating drug demand." The Home Minister also said they are working to stop drug smuggling through increasing the vigilance in border areas.
He said Kiosk will be installed in overpopulated areas like near schools and colleges to create awareness among the young generation about the adverse effects of narcotics. The minister urged the imams and teachers to play a role in creating awareness among people about the bad effects of drug.
