 ‘Drug peddler’ killed in Cumilla ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Ghilatoli along Shahpur bordering area in Adarsha Sadar Upazila early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Helal Uddin, son of sundar Ali of Bajgadda in the upazila.

Tipped off, a team of BGB-10 conducted a drive in the area around 3am, said Lt Col Abu Mohammad Mahiuddin, commanding officer of BGB-10.

Criminals opened fire when the border guards approached. At one stage, Helal was caught in the line of fire and sustained gunshot wounds.

Later, he was taken to local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

BGB also recovered 3,000 Yaba pills from the possession of Helal.
