BNP goes for campaign to release Khaleda

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Friday voiced deep concern over the life and security of its chairperson Khaleda Zia as a petrol bomb-like object was reportedly recovered from a building of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday.Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the fear while speaking at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office.

He demanded adequate security for Khaleda Zia at the BSMMU where she has been receiving treatment since April 1 last."How did a petrol bomb end up at the BSMMU amid tight security? We're deeply worried over the life and security of our leader (Khaleda)," Rizvi questioned.

He alleged that people suspect that such kind of incident cannot happen without either patronage of government high levels or a blue print of it. A petrol bomb-like object was found in front of the registrar's room at BSMMU administrative building on Thursday.

The BNP leader said the incident of the petrol bomb recovery from BSMMU has stunned the countrymen since a three-time prime minister has been undergoing treatment at the hospital. He also accused the government of making efforts to eliminate its political opposition through 'destroying democracy'.

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said, "The confidence of Bangladesh Nationalist Party grassroots level leaders and activists is being weakened due to lack of political movement and the top brasses of the party are now behind the bar. Under these circumstances, BNP is planning to boost organizing capacity and goes for a campaign across the country for the release of party imprisoned chairperson Khaleda Zia."

He has also said Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a democratic party, not an under-ground political party. We need a reasonable time and will forge strong movement for sake of democracy. We feel that we need strong organizing capacity, but it is not possible overnight.
