The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday asked the immigration authorities to stop former Foreign Minister and BNP leader M Morshed Khan from leaving the country on charges of embezzling over Tk 383 crore from bank in the name of Citycell.
In a letter sent to the Special Superintendent of Immigration police on Monday, the ACC stated that Morshed Khan had been trying to flee the country along with his family members and must be barred from doing so to ensure a fair investigation into the allegations brought against him.
Earlier on June 28 in 2017, ACC filed the case with Banani police station in the city against 16 people, including Morshed Khan and his wife Nasrin Khan.They were accused of embezzling over Tk 383 crore from AB Bank in the name of mobile phone operating company Citycell.
The main company's name of Citycell is Pacific Telecom Bangladesh Limited (PBTL). M Morshed Khan is its Chairman and his wife Nasrin Khan is one of the directors of the company. Morshed Khan was also the Chairman of AB Bank. Country's first telecom operator Citycell was shut down in 2016 due to non-payment of overdue fees to BTRC.
