Rohingya repatriation: Foreign Minister seeks help of global community

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen sought assistance of international community to reinstate and repatriate Rohingya refugees in Rakhine state of Myanmar after ensuring favorable environment for them.

He asked the honorary Consul General of foreign countries in Bangladesh and Bangladeshi honorary Consul Generals abroad to involve the governments and civil societies of different countries over the matter.

The Foreign Minister came up with the request in a letter issued recently, said a press release of Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

In the letter, the Minister said Bangladesh is unable to bear the huge influx of forcefully displaced Rohingyas people for the indefinite period and if the situation sustains it may pose great risk for stability and security of the region.

Bangladesh has been trying to resolve the Rohingya issue mutually between the two countries and three agreements has been signed with Myanmar to resolve the crisis permanently, Momen said.

“But the process of Rohingya repatriation still remained uncertain due to acute negligence of Myanmar government and their failure to create any visible helpful environment for Rohingyas”, he said.

He also expected an active role of the international community in this regard.
