Bangladesh archer Ruman shines on day two

Bangladesh famed archer Ruman Shana stunned in the ongoing World Archery Championship 2019 as he reached the 1/16 elimination round after beating Switzerland and Mexican archers respectively in the recurve men's individual event at the s-Hertogenbosch in Netherlands with the high hopes of qualifying for the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics 2020.

 After getting a bye in the first round, Ruman defeated Alvarado Santin Angel David from Mexico by 6-2 set. Ruman will take on Australian Tyack Ryan in the 1/16 elimination round match.

Two other Bangladeshi archers--Md Hakim Ahmed Rubel lost to Alexander Wise of Great Britain by 2-6 set points whileMd Tamimul Islam lost to Steve Wijler of the Netherlands by 2-6 set points in the first round of the men's recurve singles.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh recurve men's team, comprising Ruman, Tamim and Rubel, beat Spain by 5-3 set in the 1/16 elimination round to move 1/8 elimination round. They will face Korea in the1/8  round match.

In the recurve women's individual event, Bangladesh archer Beauty Ray exited the tournament after losing against Great Britain by 10-9 set in the 1/48 elimination round. Earlier, Beauty finished 68th among 152 archers in the ranking round scoring 635.

Bangladesh recurve mixed team containing Ruman and Beauty Ray managed to beat Russia by 5-3 set in the   1/12 elimination round match to reach 1/8 elimination round. They will compete against Japan in the 1/8 elimination round match.

Earlier, a nine-member team representing Bangladesh (six archers and three officials) reached Amsterdam to take part in World Archery Championship 2019.
