Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen has issued letters to the honorary consuls general of different countries stationed in Dhaka as well as to the honorary consuls general of Bangladesh in foreign countries in order to expedite the repatriation of the Rohingyas.
Dr. Momen stated in the letter that it would be very difficult for Bangladesh to bear the load of over one million Rohingyas who have been sheltered in Cox's Bazar and some other parts of the country. The elongation of the Rohingya repatriation process may jeopardize regional safety and stability.
He mentioned that Bangladesh signed three agreements with Myanmar regarding the repatriation of the Rohingya refugees. At the same time Bangladesh has been working sincerely to resolve this issue. The foreign minister remarked that the Rohingya repatriation process has been plunged into uncertainty due to noncooperation from Myanmar.
Momen called upon the international community to cooperate with Bangladesh over this issue.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sheltered all these Rohingyas to stay in Bangladesh on humanitarian grounds with a great deal of bravery, the minister said in the letter.
