Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has laid emphasis on pursuing the policy of zero tolerance to crime. Speaking in Parliament yesterday, she said any person involved in corruption will face exemplary punishment as per law no matter whatever his/her position is.

The Prime Minister was replying to a supplementary question from Jatiya Party lawmaker Begum Rawshan Ara Mannan during the question-answer session.She said any person committing crime from the ruling party will not get impunity. Regarding the law enforcement agencies, the prime minister said any negligence in duty will be dealt with strongly.

She said when a country moves in the right direction of financial and social development, the government as well as people of all classes should get united for the sake of the country. "Only the government will not be able to ensure this. Corruption, irregularities and injustice have to be prevented through social movements," she added.

Sheikh Hasina said, "We're desperately trying to prevent terrorism, violence, drug addiction and corruption by spreading social movements and involving teachers, guardians, religious personalities and civil society members across the country."

The law enforcement agencies are doing their best, she said. Replying to a supplementary question by Major (Rtd.) Rafiqul Islam Prime Minister said media intervenes when government finds loopholes in big enterprises. In the Ramadan a Consumers Rights Protection official was been transferred as the Arang  was a big house. If any government official becomes brave in his official duty, that can not be his fault, she remarked.

Replying to another question from Dr. Rustam Ali Farazi the Prime Minister said the famine in 1974 was preplanned. The anti-liberation forces as well as martial law administrators were responsible for the it.

Sheikh Hasian said, the Anti Corruption Commission is an independent and autonomous body. The commission is going ahead with the policy to take measures against corruption committed in various sectors.

They are capable enough to play due role to reduce graft.Replying to yet another question from Gloria Jharna Sarkar the Prime Minister said the agriculture ministry is taking necessary measures so that the farmers get due prices and middlemen do not deprive them.
