The High Commission of India in Dhaka launched a cycle rally at the University of Dhaka yesterday, to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation of India. High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das and Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the rally at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla of DU.
This year the government of India is conducting celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary across the world and the cycling event is part of the celebrations. Members of Dhaka University Cycling Club took part in the event. In her speech, Riva Ganguly Das said, "We are living in a time when the messages and ideas of Mahatma Gandhi are more relevant than that of the time in which he lived."
"Even now, his life and messages inspire millions across the world," she said urging all youngsters gathered there to carry forward the messages of Mahatma Gandhi.
