A light rain drenched the capital yesterday morning, the first day of Bangla month of Ashar, offering city dwellers a big relief from scorching heat.People in different parts of the capital were seen enjoying the much-expected shower that heralded the advent of the rainy season.
Atiqur Rahman, a private service holder working in Farmgate, said he took a rickshaw for work as the weather was amazing after a long time. "Usually I prefer bus as it helps me reach work faster, but once I saw the change of weather I couldn't but help myself with a rickshaw ride to work today," said Atiqur, seeming much content with the rain.
The rain on the first day of Ashar, the first month of the two-month rainy season, gave the city dwellers respite from the summer heat sweeping over the capital for the last couple of weeks. The Meteorology Department forecast that light to moderate rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind might occur at different places, including the capital, across the country commencing from 6am on Friday.
It forecast rains at most places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions at a few places over Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Barishal divisions, and at one or two places over Khulna and Rajshahi divisions with moderately heavy to heavy rain at places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.The Met office also said mild to moderate heat wave has been sweeping over Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions and it may abate at some places.
