To celebrate the special bond between children and their father, Father’s Day is celebrated every year in the third week of June. This year, it falls on June 16. While the day is celebrated on different days worldwide, the underlying significance is to celebrate fathers around the world.
It is believed that the day was started by an American woman who was raised by a widower. Sonora Smart Dodd was born in Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1982, and her mother died when she was only 16. It was Dodd’s father, William Smart, who raised her and five brothers after their mother died.
Dodd was bothered that there was no day to honour her father who raised the children alone wanted the celebration to be held on June 5, her father’s birthday. But it was later pushed to Sunday, June 19, 1910.Europeans countries celebrate Father’s Day on St Joseph’s Day to recognise the special role of the male parent in a child’s life.
Today Google Doodle celebrates Father's Day with an adorable three-part animated doodle. It shows a family of ducks. A father duck is seen sitting, with six of his ducklings sleeping around him. When you click on the doodle, the ducks get up, with the colourful assortment of ducklings jumping around and quacking.
If you click on the second button, you see the father duck looking for his ducklings, who are lined up on the side that he is not looking at. Every time the father looks towards them, they go underwater and reappear on the other side.
The third button again shows the ducklings lined up next to their father. The father duck bends down and blows into the water, and the ducklings are shown to be captured in bubbles as they rise up in the air. The father then blows air towards them and the bubbles burst, causing the ducklings to fall into the water.
Like other countries, Bangladesh celebrates this day with the great zeal and honor. It has become a day to not only honor fathers, but all men in general who act as a fatherly figure. On this day, children present flowers, greeting cards, and other gifts, and make their dad feel important.
Indeed, Father’s Day is an occasion to mark and celebrate the great contribution that fathers have made in our lives. We thank them for their efforts to raise families entrusted to their care. To this rock-solid pillar – to whom we cling during disasters, and one who usually gives great advice, guidance, and strong encouragement, thank you very much for giving up everything even yourself for the sake of your children.
Happy Fathers Day!
