Bangladesh top all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is likely set to miss the forthcoming Canadian Global T20 after he requested to give him a break from the cricket.
If BCB accept his request to give him some time off from the cricket, Shakib will surely miss Canadian T20 league. According to BCB source, Shakib is aiming to perform Hajj during the break.
"He has been in continuous cricket and looked tired, so he wants a break from the cricket. As far I know, he (Shakib) is also keen to perform Hajj. However we haven't decided anything on this as of now," he added." BCB's chief selector Minhajul Abedin said.
Earlier, Bangladesh ace all-rounder was picked by Brampton Wolves for the Canadian Global Twenty20 league. The 2019 Global T20 Canada is scheduled to be the second edition of the Global T20 Canada, a Twenty20 cricket tournament played in Brampton, Ontario. The auction for that edition was held in Canada on May 20.
The iconic all-rounder is the first Bangladesh player who was supposed be a part of the Global T20 Canada this year.
Shakib had a tremendous World Cup recently as he accumulated an extraordinary double of 600+ runs and 11 wickets in the World Cup despite Bangladesh's disappointing exit from the world cup.
Having played the franchise leagues all around the World including Bangladesh premier league (BPL), Indian Premier League (IPL) Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Big Bash League (BBL), CGT20 will be the first in his career.
However, to avoid the clash with ICC World Cup 2019 dates, the management of Global T20 is set to host the tournament from the end of July. If Shakib finally decide to join Brampton Wolves he will play alongside former West Indies captain Darren Sami, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi and New Zealand opener Colin Munro.
There will be six teams in the tournament like the previous edition. Actually, a new team named New York Legends was announced to replace Cricket West Indies B Team. But the idea was later cancelled and the Brampton Wolves were named as the sixth franchise team in June 2019.
There will be much other superstars of World Cricket like Lendl Simmons, Faf du Plessis, Kane Williamson, Brendon McCullum, Kieron Pollard, Yuvraj Singh, Trent Boult, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Lynn, Shoaib Malik is also expected take part in the second edition of the tournament.
The six franchises are- Brampton Wolves, Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Nationals, Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks. Vancouver Knights are the defending champions. The tournament is scheduled to start on 25 July 2019 and conclude on 11 August 2019. There will be total 22 matches played throughout the tournament.
