Roushan wants death penalty for child rape

Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Raushon Ershad on Thursday demanded the government ensure capital punishment to those involved in rape of children and violence against women.

She made the demand while delivering her winding-up speech in the budget session of the 11thparliament."Children are no longer safe anywhere, including schools and madrasas. It's a very shameful and regrettable matter that a student like Nusrat was killed.

The law should be enforced properly to give direct death sentence to such offenders for ensuring the safety of children," she said. Raushon urged both the Law Minister and the Home Minister to take necessary steps for the proper enforcement of law against the rapists and torturers of women and children, reports UNB.

She opposed the Prime Minister's recent remarks that gas tariff needs to be increased for ensuring development, and said both Jatiya Party and people want the country's development without hiking the gas price.

Raushon, also the senior cochairman of Jatiya Party, questioned the justification of raising gas price while it has been reduced in India. She urged the government to increase the allocation for the education sector for ensuing quality education and creating killed human resources.

Mentioning that Bangladeshi medicines are now being exported to 151 countries, Raushon regretted that adulterated medicines are sold in the country. "The court directed the authorities concerned to remove the expired medicines from the market, but it's not properly followed."She also called upon the government to take stern action against the food adulterators and ensure safe food for all, including children.

The deputy opposition leader urged the government also to take steps for checking the abuse of smart phone and drug addiction.Stating that leader of the opposition and her husband HM Ershad has been undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Raushon urged all to pray for his speedy recovery.
