Jobless employees, hopeless depositors

Around 250 employees of People's Leasing and Financial Services Limited (PLFSL) have lost their jobs following the closure of the company. They are now leading their lives amid worries and uncertainty.

At the same time the people who deposited money in PLFSL have been plunged into deep concern about their deposited funds. Even the higher officials of PLFSL are not being able to inform how or when the money would be paid back to the depositors.

A lot of depositors gathered in the office of People's Leasing and Financial Services Limited on Thursday. They all sounded very upset and angry as there is no assurance about the repayment of their deposits.

Kazi Ahmed Jaman, Senior Executive Vice President of PLFSL told media that all the employees of the company have become jobless after the shutdown of the organization. He even could not say when the depositors would get back their money.

Sami Huda, Managing Director of People's Leasing and Financial Services Limited informed that Bangladesh Bank is now in charge of the institution. He further said that he is helpless at this moment when he was asked about the money of the depositors.

A great deal of middle class people including women deposited money in People's Leasing and Financial Services Limited. Disappointment has engulfed them as they are afraid of losing their money for good.

People's Leasing and Financial Services Limited has been shut down as a result of continuous corruption and irregularities. Economists have stated that the government should immediately fight graft and anomalies in banks and financial institutions.
