After performing well in the first four-day match against Vidarbha Cricket Association, the visiting Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI will take on Dr DY Patil Cricket Academy in their 2nd four-day match of the ongoing Dr. (Capt) K. Thimmappaiah Memorial multi-day All India Cricket Tournament, also known as the 'mini Ranji Trophy', today at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
Led by Mominul Haque, BCB XI performed brilliantly in their first game against Vidarbha Cricket Association but ended up in a draw last week even though they took the first innings lead.
Thanks to 169 from skipper Mominul Haque and a brilliant 118-run knock from youngster Nazmul Hossain Shanto, BCB XI piled up a mammoth 500-7 before declaring the first innings. Taijul Islam then helped the BCB XI to earn a 147-run lead, claiming 8-89 as Vidarbha was bowled out for 353.
In the second innings, BCB XI were all out for 175 in 62 overs giving a tough winning target of 323 runs for Vidarbha on the final day. The local side scored 38-1 in 14 overs when the bails were drawn for the fourth and final day to settle for a draw.
The Bangladesh XI's inclusion makes it the first time a foreign team will play in the tournament. A total of 16 teams are going to take part in four-day games, divided into four zones.Bangladesh have been placed in Zone B alongside KSCA Secretary's XI, Vidarbha Cricket Association and Dr. D.Y Patil Cricket Academy.
The top teams of each zone will qualify for the semifinals. The final is scheduled for August 3.The top performers of this tournament will get the opportunity to take part in the Ranji Trophy, which is the reason this tournament is termed as the 'mini Ranji Trophy.'
