The government is planning to make changes to the top positions in several important missions of Bangladesh in different countries of the world. The missions, which are going to see the changes are in Beijing, Brussels and Tokyo, and the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York, according to sources in the foreign ministry.
Sources said Masud Bin Momen, permanent representative to the UN, will come back home as a secretary to the ministry of foreign affairs and be replaced by Bangladesh ambassador in Tokyo Rabab Fatima. Apart from the secretary, there are 12 officials with the status of secretary in the ministry of foreign affairs.
According to the sources, the government is mulling bringing back M Fazlul Karim, Bangladesh ambassador in Beijing and send Mahbub-uz-Zaman, a secretary (bilateral) in the foreign ministry, to Beijing to replace him. There are whispers that Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Saida Muna Tasneem may be changed.
On the other hand, the government is planning to bring back Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, Bangladesh ambassador to Brussels, and send Kamrul Ahsan, another secretary (bilateral) in the foreign ministry, to Brussels. Besides, the government considers extending the tenure of Mohammad Ziauddin, Bangladesh ambassador to Washington, for another year. His current tenure is supposed to expire at the end of this year.
Masud Bin Momen has been working in the UN since 2008 while Fazlul Kairm and Shahadat Hossain have been performing their duties abroad since 2006.The changes which are going to happen are a part of bringing back the envoys who have been working abroad for long, sources further said. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said in June this year that a big shuffle will take place in his ministry.
