Women should come forward in computer programming: Jabbar


Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has called for participation of more women in computer programming to build a knowledge-based society.

"Computer programming is a creative work… If more women come forward in this, a knowledge-based society will be created in the days to come," he said, addressing a prize distribution ceremony of the Inter-University Girls' Programming Contest-2019 at the North South University in the city on Friday, reports BSS.

Programming is an effective tool for tackling the challenges such as digital industry revolution or the 4th industry revolution along with other technologies like Robotics, IoT, Big data or Block chain, he said.

Highlighting the progress of women in education in the country, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted and implemented various programs for the expansion of female education and women empowerment. As a result, the country has achieved 53 percent presence of women in the educational institutions across the country against the total number of students, he added.

North South University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Atique Islam, Pro-VC Dr Gias U. Ahsan and Assistant Professor Dr Sajjat Hossain also spoke on the occasion.Later, the minister distributed prizes among the winners in the competition where students from 40 deferent universities of the country participated.
