The total market capitalization on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), country's prime bourse, dropped Tk 20 billion on Monday from the previous day's figure amid the current bearish trend in the capital market.According to data on the DES website, the market capitalization stood at Tk 3,846 billion on the day against 3,866 billion on Sunday.
DSEX, the key index of DSE, declined by 12.49 points from 5172.86 on Sunday to close the day at 5160.37. A total of 126.19 million shares valued at Tk 4.77 billion changed hand against the transactions of 135.73 million scrips worth Tk 4.64 billion a day ago.
Market sources said a cartel is active in the capital market to 'plunder' money of the retail investors through manipulation.Share Market Investors Unity Council president Mizanur Rashid Chowdhury told Jagonews24.com that small investors are losing their money in the market every day due to the manipulation.
He said the regulatory authorities are not taking any step to protect the interest of the small investors.Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission on July 21 formed a four-member inquiry committee to look into the role of intermediaries in the current bearish market.The committee was asked to submit a report within 15 working days.
