India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) held an extraordinary general meeting on Wednesday at its office in the capital's Mohakhali. IBCCI President Abdul Matlub Ahmad, Vice-President Shoeb Chowdhury, Secretary and CEO Jahangir Bin Alam and the Directors of IBCCI were present in the meeting.
The participants of the meeting discussed different modalities of a proposed amendment in the Board of Directors of IBCCI. According to the proposal the Board of Directors will consist of 24 members including its President, two Vice Presidents, one Honorary Secretary General, one Honorary Joint Secretary General, one Treasurer and eighteen Executive Members.
The proposal further states that unless otherwise determined by the chamber in a general meeting, the term of the Board of Directors will be for a period of two years. The term of office of a director elected due to an increase in the number of directors will be for the remaining term of office of other directors then serving and the terms of office of directors elected to fill in a vacancy will be for the balance period of the unexpired term of his predecessor.
However, upon expiry of a two year term of office, the outgoing board members will be eligible to seek election for the next successive terms of office without any restriction whatsoever on the eligibility criterion. But upon completion of each two year term, there will be fresh election for electing a new board for the next term and the process will continue.
