13,142 families get VGF rice in Sherpur

Some 13,142 poor and distressed families have been brought under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) program in Nakla of Sherpur for Eid-ul-Azha celebration this year. Under the specialized VGF program, 1, 97,130 Kgs of rice allocated for distribution among the beneficiary families in nine unions and one municipality in the upazila, officials concerned said.

Some 915 poor and distressed families get VGF rice in Baneswardi union of Nakla on Thursday. Zahidur Rahman UNO of Nakla inaugurated and Alhaj Mazharul Anwar Mahabbat chairman of Baneswardi UP presided over the distribution program. 

Among others, PIO Md Jahangir Alam, Md Lutfur Rahman upazila food controller, Md Azizul Islam secretary of the UP, Shamim Ahmed GS and Mafizul Hoque organizational secretary of union AL, Md Shahidul Islam superintend of Banes-wardi Islamia Dhakil Madrasa, Khandokar Jasim Uddin Minto social worker and more than thousand beneficiaries poor and distressed families of the union and journalists of different media were also present.

Each of the beneficiary families is getting 15 kgs of rice this time according to the list prepared earlier. Meanwhile, distribution of rice is progressing fast everywhere in the upazila and is expected to be completed by on proper time.

The government through the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the huge quantity of rice in the upazila. As per direction and supervision of the upazila administration, the concerned union parishads with the assistances of local public representatives and union level committees have been distributing the rice among the listed VGF card holding families, said Alhaj Mazharul Anwar Mahabbat chairman of Baneswardu union parishad .

PIO Md Jahangir Alam said that distribution of VGF rice will be completed within the stipulated time so that the beneficiary poor and distressed families could celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha festivity.

Respective union parishads prepared the list of the distressed people in their areas and rice was distributed with approval of the concerned UNOs. "We are very much hopeful about successful distribution of the VGF rice on time," said Zahidur Rahman UNO of Nakla upazila of Sherpur.
