'Dengue outbreak due to development' Shwapan Bhattacharya

State Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Shwapan Bhattacharya has said that the outbreak of dengue took place due to widespread development in Bangladesh. He further said that aedes mosquito is an elite insect. Dengue has affected people in Singapore and Thailand too. Shwapan Bhattacharya made these remarks on Thursday while addressing a program in Gopalganj at Bangabandhu Academy for Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development.  

The spread of dengue has caused a great deal of panic all over the country. Over thirty two thousand people have been so far infected with dengue. According to official figures so far eighteen people have died of dengue though unofficial sources have informed   that at lease sixty people have so far succumbed to dengue.

Earlier on Dhaka South City Corporation's (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon sparked criticism by saying that the epidemic spread of dengue is a rumor. People slammed Sayeed Khokon for this comment on social networks. Both city corporations in Dhaka have taken up comprehensive initiatives to kill mosquitoes.

Broader measures have been meanwhile taken in other parts of Bangladesh too for eliminating mosquitoes. The number of dengue patients has been increasing without cease. Under these circumstances doctors and health experts have advised people to stay on high alert so that mosquito bite cannot cause dengue.
