A condolence motion over the death of former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad recognizing him as a successful statesman was granted in National Parliament on Sunday.
Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury raised the condolence motion in the assembly on Sunday after initiating the fourth session of the eleventh national Parliament.
The condolence message stated, "Bangladesh lost a veteran politician, a successful statesman and a dedicated social activist through the death of Hussain Muhammad Ershad. This Parliament expresses deep condolence over his death and prays for the eternal peace of his departed soul."
Parliamentarians belonging to the ruling party and opposition front discussed different aspects of Hussain Muhammad Ershad's life.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jatiya Party Chairperson Raushan Ershad, Awami League Presidium Members Amir Hussain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Mohammad Nasim, Jatiya Party Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Anisul Islam Mahmud and some other Members of Parliament recalled Hussain Muhammad Ershad in their discussions.
Raushan Ershad said that Hussain Muhammad Ershad was a highly popular political leader. He deeply loved the country's people, particularly villagers, she further said.
Former Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that Hussain Muhammad Ershad was a polite and a soft-hearted person. Mohammad Nasim said that Ershad profoundly loved the people of Rangpur and honored father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
