JaPa MP demands JS panel to deal with all-pervasive graft
Opposition MP Pir Fazlur Rahman (Sunamganj-4) on Monday demanded that a parliamentary committee be formed with senior MPs to look into allegations of widespread corruption in different sectors.

Taking the floor on point of order, he referred to various corruption allegations in different organisations, including Faridpur Medical College and Rooppur Power Plant Project.

Pointing to the alleged corruption in Faridpur Medical College, the JaPa MP said Tk 37.5 lakh was showed as a curtain price, while Tk 5.27 crore as the price of an oxygen-generating plant.

He said the Health Directorate spent Tk 85,000 on procuring a book that actually costs only Tk 5,500.

“Government achievements now face challenges due to institutional corruption and irregularities. Corruption cases are surfacing one after another,” Pir Fazlur told the House.

Joining the point of order, BNP MP Harunur Rashid demanded that the foreign minister deliver a statement under section 300 of the rules of procedure of parliament in the House over Priya Shaha’s remarks placed before US President Donald Trump.

He criticised the government for its failure to dengue menace, ensure fair prices of the rawhides of sacrificial animals, and check milk adulteration.

Noting that thousands of crore of Taka are being looted in the health sector, the BNP MP questioned why corrupts are not killed as drug dealers are shot dead in incidents of crossfire.
