“We’ve prepared the primary draft of the new Evidence Act. My goal is to place a complete draft of the act before Parliament in December,” he said.
The minister was addressing a discussion on necessity of law reforms in light of the spirit of the Liberation War arranged by Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
He also said they were working to establish a virtual court to expedite the trial proceedings.
Anisul said a meeting was held with the stakeholders on the Evidence Act last week.
He further said the ministry will support any decision taken by the Hindu community to reform the Hindu inheritance law.
The minister said the prime goal of the government is to ensure communal harmony. “We want to create a social system where members of all the religions, including Hindus and Muslims, can live peacefully. We’ll identify ourselves as Bangladeshis only,” he said.
To ensure communal harmony, some laws need to be reformed, he said. “The current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to ensure rights of all and laws will be made to achieve that goal.”
President of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir, former Supreme Court Judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) General Secretary Advocate Rana Dasgupta also spoke at the programme.
