Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members have detained six members of a ‘teenage gang’ over the killing of teen Nur Islam in Joydevpur of the city.

A team of Rab-1 detained them from different places on Wednesday night, said Sujoy Sarker, Assistant Police Super of Rab-1, while speaking at a press conference on Thursday noon.

They also recovered two machetes, one knife, five mobile phone sets and Tk 8,000 in cash from their possession.

The detainees are Russel Mia, chief of teenage gang ‘Bhai-Brothers Group’ and its members Mohammad Sourav, Ashraful Islam, Mohammad Zobair, Amir Hamza and Sujon Patwary.

Sujoy Sarker ‘Bhai-Brothers Group’ had been at loggerheads with another teenage gang ‘Dighirpar Group’ over establishing supremacy in the locality.

As a sequel of the enmity, a brawl took place between the two groups on September 3.

At one stage, 10-12 members of ‘Bhai-Brothers Group’ swooped on Nur Islam, a member of ‘Dighirpar Group’, and hacked him to death.

The victim’s father filed a case Sadar Police Station in this regard.
