DMP gets its new commissioner
The government has appointed chief of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police Md Shafiqul Islam as the new Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner.

He replaces the outgoing Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia, the Public Security Division of the Home Ministry issued a notification on August 28 last in this regard.

Shafiqul previously served as Additional Inspector General of Police of the CID.

He joined the Bangladesh Police as Assistant Superintendent of Police in the 8th BCS (Police) cadre. During his career, Shafiqul Islam served as the Superintendent of Police in Narayanganj, Patuakhali, Sunamganj and Cumilla districts.

Shafiqul, who becomes the DMP’s 34th Commissioner, was awarded the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) more than twice for his professionalism and skill.

He was born in a respected Muslim family at Naoda Bondo Beel village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district.

He completed his BSc (Hons) degree from the Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1986.

Outgoing DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Security Affairs Cell under the Cabinet Division for a three-year term.
